Entry requirements

Successful completion of a recognised Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree (or equivalent qualification).

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you have completed previous tertiary studies, you may be able to gain credit for previous subjects. To apply, you will need to submit your academic transcripts to the university's Office of Future Students, including detailed subject outlines or course descriptions for each relevant subject.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of (a) a range of specialised legal topics selected by the student, including recent developments in legal scholarship and professional practice; and (b) legal research principles and methods.
  • Demonstrate the legal reasoning, research and communication skills to (a) reflect critically on legal theory and professional practice; (b) investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice; (c) generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level; (d) justify and interpret theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences; and (e) design, evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments that contribute to legal scholarship and professional practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply legal knowledge and skills (a) with creativity and initiative to new situations, (b) with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability and (c) to plan and execute substantial research-based projects.
