Course overview

The Law Research Master's offers candidates the opportunity to undertake research in a specialised area of law.

Students will complete compulsory research support units and a supervised thesis that will substantially contribute to legal knowledge. This course will allow candidates to develop and acquire high-level skills in research and analysis, equipping candidates for careers in advanced research, tertiary education, professional training and policy development.

Entry Requirements

Admission Requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor's degree in a cognate discipline.
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years of relevant professional experience.

English Language Requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0).
  • Bachelor's degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy.
  • I completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at the postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent).
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70% or higher in a Bachelor's degree in Law. Applicants who have not achieved a WAM of 70 per cent or higher should seek advice from the Course Coordinator before applying for this course.
