What you will study

To complete the Master of Accounting, you must complete 12 units (72 credit points). It consists of Part A. Mastery Knowledge eight units (48 credit points) and Part B. Electives four units (24 credit points).

Mastery Knowledge

You must complete either a coursework or research pathway.

a. Coursework pathway

Complete the following units:

  • Strategic management accounting
  • Forensic accounting and fraud examination
  • Financial reporting issues
  • Integrated systems for business enterprises
  • Management control systems
  • Financial statement analysis and business valuation
  • Business analytics (6 credit points)

Capstone unit

Complete one of the following units:

  • Applied contemporary accounting
  • Accounting study tour
  • Industry placement
  • Industry placement (12 credit points)

Entry requirements

Entry level 1: 72 points to complete

Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time

  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in accounting with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).

Entry level 2: 48 points to complete

Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in accounting with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent GPA that meets the entry requirements of a professional accounting organisation.
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in accounting with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and an Australian graduate certificate/honours degree (or equivalent).
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in accounting and two years of relevant professional experience.
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a major in accounting and full membership of a professional accounting organisation.

*Professional accounting organisations: Chartered Accountants Australia + New Zealand (CA ANZ), CPA Australia, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) or a recognised equivalent professional accounting program.

Applicants applying based on work experience are required to provide a detailed curriculum vitae that outlines their employment history and professional experience.

English language requirements

For entry to Monash University, you must meet the minimum English language requirements. You can do this by completing one of the qualifications listed on their website.

If you've completed several measures of English proficiency over a period of time, the highest valid measure will be accepted, provided it was taken within the required time limitations.

Fees and FEE-HELP

Indicative 2026 first-year fee: $38,000 (domestic full-fee paying place).

All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 24 credit points (normally four units) per semester or 48 credit points (normally eight units) per year.

A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:

  • The number of units studied per term. 
  • The choice of major or specialisation.
  • Choice of units. 
  • Credit from previous study or work experience.
  • Eligibility for government-funded loans.
