What you will study
To complete the Master of Applied Econometrics, you must complete 12 units (72 credit points). It consists of Part A. Advance preparatory, two units (12 credit points), Part B. Mastery Knowledge, six units (36 credit points) and Part C. Electives, four units (24 credit points).
Complete 12 credit points from the following units.
- Introductory Applied Econometrics (six credit points) OR Introductory Econometrics (six credit points
- Applied Econometrics - ETF5320 (six credit points) OR Applied Econometrics - ETC5341 (six credit points)
Entry requirements
Entry level 1: 72 points to complete
Duration: 1.5 years full-time, three years part-time
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average in a STEM or business area, including a 1st year statistics or mathematics unit or equivalent.
Entry level 2: 48 points to complete
Duration: One year full-time, two years part-time
Applicants must have one of the following:
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a significant or minor in a cognate discipline* with at least a high credit (65%) average or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and an Australian graduate certificate/honours degree (or equivalent).
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a STEM or business area includes a 1st year of statistics or mathematics unit or equivalent and two years of relevant professional experience.***
Cognate disciplines include actuarial studies, econometrics, engineering, finance, mathematics, science or statistics.
- A minor is at least four units (equivalent to 24 Monash credit points).
- Applicants applying based on work experience must provide a detailed curriculum vitae outlining their employment history and professional experience.
- Applicants who have completed relevant discipline units in an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) may be exempted from undertaking advanced preparatory units and can choose an alternative unit in consultation with the Course Director.
English language requirements

- Applied econometrics graduates also demonstrate specialist knowledge in subjects related to econometrics to progress towards professional careers in private, public or institutional sectors as economists or consultants.
- Have advanced knowledge to master's level in the specialisation.
Fees and FEE-HELP
Indicative 2026 first-year fee: $38,000 (domestic full-fee paying place).
All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 24 credit points (normally four units) per semester or 48 credit points (normally eight units) per year.
A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:
- The number of units studied per term.
- The choice of major or specialisation.
- Choice of units.
- Credit from previous study or work experience.
- Eligibility for government-funded loans.
