Master of Leadership

What you will study

To be eligible for the award of Master of Leadership, students must complete a minimum of 300 units comprising:

• 225 units from nine compulsory courses.
• 75 units from three elective courses.

Compulsory courses (25 units each)

• Ethical Leadership for Today’s Organisations (or equivalent)
• Organisations: Power, Leadership and Transformation
• Leadership: Theory and Practice
• Leading Change
• Negotiation
• Strategic Management and Planning
• Strategic Workforce issues
• Research Methods
• Directed Research Project - or - Professional Project

Elective courses (25 units each)

You may choose from the following:

• Business – Economics for Managers
• Business – Accounting for Managers
• Business – Marketing

OR

• Liberal Arts – Ethics
• Liberal Arts – Philosophy
• Liberal Arts – Theology

OR

• Three general postgraduate electives as approved by the Dean.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

To be considered for admission into this program, you will need to have one of the following:

• A bachelor's degree from a recognised Australian or overseas university demonstrating the attainment of satisfactory grades plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience in managerial and/or supervisory and/or leadership roles.
• A graduate diploma in a business discipline.
• If the Dean is satisfied that there is sufficient background and/or experience in management/supervision and the applicant has the skills necessary to complete the program.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning may be granted to selected applicants who have no formal tertiary qualifications but who have at least 10 years’ industry experience.

Students who have completed a recognised postgraduate business degree (i.e. Graduate Certificate in Business) may be eligible to apply for advanced standing, depending on their undergraduate course and specialisation. To obtain advanced standing, students require a significant level of specialisation in a particular area.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Master of Leadership graduates will be able to:

• Apply the management skills necessary to lead a team in the business community.
• Apply the management skills necessary to plan and manage a financially sustainable business.
• Create strategies to identify and seize business opportunities through the use of contemporary management theory.
• Apply the skill gained in their area of specialisation in complex national and international scenarios.
• Develop processes and practices needed to meet the regulatory environment under which a business operates.
• Create community and customer engagement strategies.
• Effectively analyse and manage ethical matters.
• Employ critical reflection to encourage ongoing learning to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills.
• Be able to think critically, reason and use judgment in preparation for their professional practice.
• Use evidence-based research in preparation for professional analysis and advice.

Fees and FEE-HELP

Estimated fee in 2025: $30,000 (domestic full-fee paying place)

A student’s annual fee may vary in accordance with:

• The number of units studied per term.
• The choice of major or specialisation.
• Choice of units.
• Credit from previous study or work experience.
• Eligibility for government-funded loans.

FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee paying domestic students with the cost of a university course.
