What you will study

To earn the Master of Business Administration, you must complete a total of 192 credit points as follows:

  • Four core courses (48 credit points)
  • One MBA Research core course (12 credit points)
  • One Capstone course (12 credit points)
  • 120 credit points from one of the following possible combinations:
    • Combination 1: Complete one MBA major and 24 credit points of university electives.
    • Combination 2: Complete two MBA minors and 24 credit points of university electives.
    • Combination 3: Complete one MBA minor and 48 credit points of MBA option courses and 24 credit points of university electives.
    • Combination 4: Complete 96 credit points in MBA option courses and 24 credit points of university electives.

Each course (subject) is valued at 12 credit points unless otherwise stated.

At RMIT University, the terms “course” and “courses” may also be used to refer to individual “subjects” or units of study.

Academic requirements

Two-year duration (without advanced standing)

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher level qualification in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.0 (out of 4.0).
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher level qualification in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and a GMAT overall minimum score of 550.

1.5-year duration (with advanced standing)

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification in a business or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.0 (out of 4.0).*
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher level qualification in a business or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and a GMAT overall minimum score of 550.
  • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution in any discipline with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.0 (out of 4.0), plus a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
  • RMIT Graduate Certificate in Business Administration.

Notes:

  • You do not need to make a separate application for advanced standing (1.5-year duration). RMIT will assess your eligibility for advanced standing as part of your course application.
    However, if you would also like to be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning, you must submit a detailed CV with your application.
    All assessments are made on a case-by-case basis.
  • If your qualification was completed more than 10 years ago, you will need to provide evidence of ongoing professional work and/or professional development in the same discipline as the program for which you are seeking entry.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will have developed the authentic and inclusive leadership capabilities required to thrive in business, the technological proficiency to drive effective organisational change and a strong awareness of the legal, social, economic and environmental implications of digital transformations in national and global business contexts. Graduates will not only be able to evaluate and reflect on contemporary issues and industry practice but also apply design thinking and analytics techniques to develop innovative solutions to organisational challenges.

Graduates will integrate multidisciplinary theories and practices to maintain and extend currency in professional contexts and apply complex research principles and methods to address complex business problems, supporting meaningful and sustainable business practices.

Graduates will also be able to demonstrate high-level interpersonal skills, including critical thinking, collaboration, reflection, inclusion, sound judgement, decision-making and persuasive written and oral communication, applicable across a range of workforce contexts.

Career outcomes

Graduates work and lead professional, commercial, industrial, not-for-profit, NGO, public administration and start-up organisations across the globe. They perform a wide range of roles, including organisational strategy, management consultancy, operations management, marketing managers, international business development, coordination and as innovation champions.

Fees and FEE-HELP

Estimated first-year tuition fee in 2026: $38,400 (domestic full-fee paying place).

Additional expenses:

  • Student services and amenities fee (SSAF): $373 maximum fee for 2026.
  • Other items related to your program include field trips, textbooks and equipment.

All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 96 credit points (normally eight units) per year.
