The Master of Commerce caters to students from many different backgrounds. Highly student-centred and flexible in design, it allows you to choose from majors and minors in a range of business disciplines.

What you will study
To graduate, you must complete the following. All courses listed may not be available each semester.
You must complete a total of sixteen courses (192 credit points) as follows:
- Four core courses (48 credit points)
- One capstone course (12 credit points)
- Three courses (36 credit points) from any major/minor, professional placement optional course list or University Postgrad Elective.
Eight courses (96 credit points) from one of the following options:
- Option 1: One major.
- Option 2: Two minors.
- Option 3: One minor and any four courses from the majors/minors.
University Postgrad Electives:
- University Postgrad Electives can be found on the RMIT Electives site and may include study tours and research courses.
- A maximum of 36 credit points can be taken as University Postgrad Electives.
Program and course advice:
- The capstone course should be taken in the final semester of your program.
- If you use a course toward the completion of a major or minor, you cannot use that same course again to count toward another major or minor.
- The courses in each major and minor need to be completed in the sequence listed. Please ensure you check the course requisites before enrolling.
- Most courses are 12 credit points each, but please note that some courses are 24 or more credit points.
Students must complete a series of compulsory onboarding modules during their first semester or study period. Complete 48 credit points from the following:
- Information Systems for Business
- Future of Work
- Social Impact and Responsible Business
- Business Research Design
AND
- Option 1: Complete 48 credit points from One (1) Major at the end of the program structure.
- Option 2: Complete 48 credit points from One (1) Minor at the end of the program structure.
- Option 3: Complete 48 credit points from a Minor at the end of the program structure.
Entry requirements
Two-year duration
- Applicants must have an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification, in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
1.5-year duration (with advanced standing)
Applicants must have one of the following:
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification, in a business or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
- An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution in any discipline, plus a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
- RMIT's Graduate Certificate in Commerce.
Notes:
- You do not need to make a separate application for advanced standing (1.5-year duration). RMIT will assess your eligibility for advanced standing as part of your program application. However, if you would also like to be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning, you must submit a detailed CV with your application. All assessments are made on a case-by-case basis.
- Suppose your qualification was completed more than 10 years ago. In that case, you must provide evidence of ongoing professional work and/or professional development in the same discipline as the program for which you seek entry.

Fees and FEE-HELP
Estimated first-year tuition fee in 2026: $35,520 (domestic full-fee paying place).
Additional expenses:
- Student services and amenities fee (SSAF): $373 maximum fee for 2026.

All costs are calculated using current rates and are based on a study load of 96 credit points (normally eight units) per year.
