The Master of Professional Accounting equips students with advanced conceptual and applied skills needed by professional accountants to thrive in a dynamic, global business environment. Designed with industry input, the program includes units on Financial Crime, AI, Blockchain and Visualisation to meet market demands. Accredited by professional accounting bodies, the course offers students associate membership to CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Graduates will have specialised knowledge and research skills in accounting and related areas of business and be suitable for a variety of accounting-related roles in the private and public sector, including government administration, financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, auditing, teaching, finance, treasury, information systems, banking, superannuation, manufacturing, consulting or business advisory services.

What you will study

To qualify for the award of Master of Professional Accounting, students must complete 16 units (equivalent to 200 credit points) comprising:

  • Four foundation units
  • Eight core units
  • Four specialisation or elective units

Each unit is worth 12.5 credit points.

  • Accounting Systems and Reporting
  • Economics
  • Business Statistical Modelling
  • Corporate Financial Management

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have completed one of the following:

  • A recognised bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • A Graduate Certificate of Professional Accounting (for students without a recognised bachelor's degree).

English language requirements

All Swinburne students must be able to meet the English language requirements. You’ll be able to provide evidence of your English language skills if you have one of the following:

  • Completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or another secondary qualification taught in English.
  • Completed some types of university or vocational education studies (tertiary studies).
  • Completed English language tests, such as TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson or C1.
  • Completed an English language (ELICOS) course.
  • Lived and worked in an English-speaking country for at least four years (domestic applicants only).
