The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an essential qualification that prepares leaders to perform at a high level in any industry. What you will study

To complete the MBA, you must complete 72 credit points (CP) at 400- or 500-level, including at least 36 credit points at 500-level. Each unit is valued at six CP.

This course offers five different structures depending on the admission rule you fall under.

Rule A

Candidates may choose to complete one of the following majors OR additional 24 CP of Listed units.

Listed units

For candidates completing a major or the Research Pathway, complete 36 CP from the following units (or other 400-level or 500-level unit with approval of the Course Coordinator), with at least 12 CP at 500-level. Those undertaking the Human Resource Management major must complete at least 24 CP at 500-level.

For candidates not completing a major or the Research Pathway, complete 60 CP from the following units (or other 400-level or 500-level unit with approval of the Course Coordinator), with at least 36 CP at 500-level:

Academic requirements

This course is offered under five admission rules.

Rule A: You have completed a bachelor's qualification (AQF Level 7 or overseas equivalent) AND you have a minimum of two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant professional experience.

If you are admitted on this basis, you will be eligible for admission under Rule A.

Rule B: You have completed one of the following qualifications (or an overseas equivalent) AND you have a minimum of two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant professional experience.

Graduate certificate (AQF Level 8)
Graduate diploma (AQF Level 8)
Bachelor honours (AQF Level 8)

If you are admitted on this basis, you will be eligible for admission under Rule B.

Rule C: You have completed a master's qualification or above (AQF Level 9 or overseas equivalent).

If you are admitted on this basis, you will be eligible for admission under Rule C.

Rule D: You have completed a Graduate Certificate of Applied Corporate Governance and Risk Management through the Governance Institute of Australia.

If you are admitted on this basis, you will be eligible for admission under Rule D.

Rule E: You have completed a UNE Graduate Diploma in Business.

If you are admitted on this basis, you will be eligible for admission under Rule E.

Relevant professional experience refers to a position of responsibility in any organisational and industry context.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Advanced Standing is credit or recognition of your previous study, work and/or life experience. This can reduce the cost and length of your studies.

Course Entry Advanced Standing

Some entry rules come with Advanced Standing or Articulation Programs that are assessed automatically without the need for you to fill in an additional application.

If you are admitted under Rule B or D, you will be granted 24 CP of Specified or Unspecified Advanced Standing. If you wish to have previous relevant studies considered for Specified Advanced Standing on admission, you must include detailed subject outlines for consideration by the Course Coordinator.
If you are admitted under Rule C, you will be granted 36 CP of Specified or Unspecified Advanced Standing. If you wish to have previous relevant studies considered for Specified Advanced Standing on admission, you must include detailed subject outlines for consideration by the Course Coordinator.
If you are admitted under Rule E, you will be granted 48 CP of Block Advanced Standing, with 18 credit points at 400-level and 30 credit points at 500-level.

Individual Unit Advanced Standing

If you are admitted into this course and believe you have already completed the equivalent of one or more of the units in your Course Structure (Program of Study) within the last 10 years, you can apply for Individual Unit Advanced Standing.

If you are admitted under Rule A, you can apply for up to 36 CP of Advanced Standing .
If you are admitted under Rules B or D, you can apply for up to a further 12 CP of Advanced Standing.

Advanced Standing cannot be granted for special topic or dissertation units.

Fees and CSP

Estimated first-year fee in 2025: $28,472 (domestic full-fee paying place)

Estimated first-year fee in 2025: $16,388 (Commonwealth Supported Place)

The costs will depend on the units you choose to study as the cost of individual units vary. “Estimated fees” are provided as a guide only based on a typical enrolment of students undertaking a study load of 48 CP in the first year of this course. For courses that require less than 48 CP, the fees indicated are based on the total credit points required for completion of that course.

Credit from previous study or work experience.
Eligibility for government-funded loans.

Commonwealth Supported Places

The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPs to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.

If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you'll only need to pay a portion of your tuition fees. This is known as the student contribution amount – the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.

Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.

Your student contribution amount is:

Calculated per unit you're enrolled in.
Dependent on the study areas they relate to.
Reviewed and adjusted each year.

HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.

FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee paying domestic students with the cost of a university course.
