This hands-on course guides participants through the full project management lifecycle - from initiation and planning to execution, monitoring and closure - with a strong focus on developing and applying a clear project development plan. What you will learn
After attending the course and completing the action learning, this course will enable you to set your project teams up for success.
In this course, you will:
- Evaluate appropriate approaches, methods and tools for different types of projects based on the project’s level of uncertainty, risk and complexity.
- Assess 12 critical success factors when initiating and setting up projects.
- Define the role of project governance and sponsorship in engaging and aligning project stakeholders to the project objectives.
- Explore the trade-off between time, cost and scope in a project simulation to optimise performance and team productivity.
- Diagnose an in-flight project to assess its health and apply learnings to improve its chances of success.
How will you learn
This course takes place over two engaging days of in-person sessions. To help you prepare and get the most out of the experience, you’ll have access to resources and preparation activities in advance. These materials are designed to familiarise you with key concepts and set the foundation for active participation during the sessions.
This course is delivered across two full days.
Day 1
- Project definition and approaches.
- Vasa case study - Explore the Vasa project to understand design, approach, stakeholder involvement and risk management.
- Challenges for project management, Obeng model, uncertainty and risk in projects and agile vs. predictive approaches to uncertainty.
- Project objectives, project charter and project planning process.
- Project stakeholders, governance and success.
Day 2
- Develop a LEGO project plan.
- Build session (30-minute intervals for PSR).
- Continue building and reviewing.
- Debrief. Lessons, insights and application.

Who You Will Learn From
Jürgen Oschadleus
Adjunct Faculty
Jürgen is an international speaker, educator and consultant specialising in project leadership, influence and communication. With over 25 years’ experience across Africa, Europe, the USA and Asia-Pacific, he blends insights from history, education, technology and psychology to help leaders think differently and achieve stronger outcomes.
He is the founder of Act Knowledge, a partner in the Valense consulting network, and a certified coach and speaker with the John Maxwell Team. Jürgen teaches postgraduate project management and leadership at AGSM @ UNSW and the University of Sydney, and is the author of Heart of Influence. He holds advanced qualifications in project management, education and leadership, and lives in Sydney.
