Course overview

As a student, you'll undertake high-level coursework – choosing from over 40 subjects and projects such as policy design and implementation, economic analysis, dynamics of governance, globalisation and international crisis management.

A mix of theoretical study and practical projects will prepare you for leadership roles in government, NGOs and international organisations. Tailor the program to suit your career goals by choosing courses in areas such as:

What you will study

Students must complete 32 units comprising:

  • Eight units for all MGPP Foundational Courses
  • 12 units for all MGPP Core Courses
  • Four to 12 units for MGPP Flexible Core Courses
  • Zero to eight units from MGPP Program Elective Courses

Unless otherwise stated, each course is valued at two units.

Note

  • Selected courses must include at least 12 units at level six or higher.
  • Selected courses must include at least eight units at level 7.
  • Selected courses must include, at most, eight units at level 3.
Core

MGPP Foundational Courses

Complete eight units for all of the following:

  • Writing Politics (four units)
  • Foundations in Politics, Policy and International Relations (four units)

MGPP Core Courses

Complete 12 units for all of the following:

  • Dynamics of Governance
  • Dynamics of Public Policy
  • Comparative Public Policy
  • Knowledge and Evidence in Public Policy
  • Policy Design and Implementation
  • Economic Analysis and Public Policy
MGPP Flexible Core Courses
MGPP Program Elective Courses

You may also complete this course through one of the following:

  • 32 units for MGPP - 1.5-year duration (24 units of study and eight units for prior learning).
  • 32 units for MGPP - One year duration (16 units of study and 16 units for prior learning).

Entry Requirements

Two-year degree (32 units of study)

To be eligible to complete the degree in two years full-time (or part-time equivalent), you'll need one of the following:

  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline.
  • To have successfully completed three years of study towards an approved qualification at an overseas partner institution that has a formal pathway to the Master of Governance and Public Policy (two-year duration).

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

One-year degree (16 units of study)

English Language Requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements, you may apply to study in a university-approved English language program.
