  • Delivery: Online
  • Study Level: Postgraduate
  • Duration: 24 months
  • Course Type: Master's

Strengthen your ability to prevent disease, promote healthier communities and inform health policy through online study in epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems and global health.

Course overview

The University of Queensland’s Master of Public Health develops the knowledge and skills to influence health policy, contribute to disease prevention and support health services reform. Designed for graduates from health, science, education and social science backgrounds, the course examines public health challenges across communities, workplaces and health systems.

You will learn how to interpret evidence and respond to contemporary and established health concerns through epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, health promotion and global health policy. Study in First Nations health and wellbeing, major diseases, research methods and program evaluation strengthens your ability to investigate health priorities and plan evidence-informed public health responses.

Delivered online through UQ’s External study mode, the course connects comprehensive public health study with applied capstone learning. Depending on eligibility and availability, you may undertake a research project, participate in the Public Health Impact Lab or apply for a professional placement. The curriculum reflects UQ’s links with international health organisations and has been validated by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation.

Commonwealth Supported Places

The Australian Government allocates a certain number of CSPs to the universities each year, which are then distributed to students based on merit.

If you're a Commonwealth Supported Student (CSS), you'll only need to pay a portion of your tuition fees. This is known as the student contribution amount – the balance once the government subsidy is applied. This means your costs are much lower.

Limited CSP spaces are offered to students enrolled in selected postgraduate courses.

Your student contribution amount is:

  • Calculated per the course you're enrolled in.
  • Dependent on the study areas they relate to.
  • Reviewed and adjusted each year.

HECS-HELP loans are available to CSP students to pay the student contribution amount.
