Course overview

The Master of Health Science (Health Services Management) is designed for new, aspiring and mid-tier health service practitioners, planners and managers seeking to advance their strategic and operational management capabilities. You will examine how people, resources, systems and processes can be managed to respond to the changing needs of communities, clinicians, governments and organisations.

Core study within the Health Services Management major covers health service financing, advanced health service management, quality and safety, and health systems planning and evaluation. All students also examine epidemiology and the social determinants of health, while the longer pathways include further study in health systems, policy and health care data.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, you will complete 80, 120 or 160 credit points. The longer pathways provide additional flexibility through subjects in areas such as project management, aged care management, human resources and research. Final study options vary by pathway and may include an industry-linked professional project, dissertation or optional professional internship.

The Health Services Management major is accredited by the Australasian College of Health Service Management. Graduates may pursue opportunities in health service management, health planning, project management, aged care management, human resource management and research.
