Course overview

Western Sydney University’s Master of Nursing (Clinical Leadership) is designed for registered nurses who are current or aspiring clinical leaders, including nurse clinicians and nurse managers. It provides formal education in contemporary clinical leadership and aims to prepare graduates for roles such as clinical nurse specialist and clinical nurse consultant.

Core study covers leadership in clinical practice, leadership for quality and safety, organisational capacity, evidence-based health care and cultural and social diversity. Through these areas, students examine leadership theory and behaviour, communication in health service contexts, organisational culture and change, and ethical and legal issues in clinical nursing leadership. They also consider how evidence, culturally sensitive communication and socio-political factors inform nursing practice and health policy.

Students complete either a capstone experience or research project, or the paired subjects Scholarship for Practice Change in Health Care and Writing for Publication. Depending on entry qualifications and recent registered nursing experience, the course can be completed through a one-year 80-credit-point pathway or a 1.5-year 120-credit-point pathway, with full-time and part-time study available.

CSP Subsidised Fees Available

This program has a limited quota of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP). The indicative CSP price is calculated based on first year fees for EFT. The actual fee may vary if there are choices in electives or majors.

  • Dependent on the study areas they relate to.
  • Reviewed and adjusted each year.
