Course overview

VU Online’s Master of Financial Planning develops advanced knowledge and skills for students looking to enter or progress within the financial planning profession. The course covers the ethical, professional and regulatory responsibilities involved in providing financial advice.

You will study areas including investment planning, superannuation and retirement, risk management, estate planning, taxation, commercial law and behavioural finance. You will also develop skills in financial plan construction and client management.

Later study includes Business Consulting, Accounting and Financial Management, Corporate Finance and Art and Practice of Leadership. Students also use XPlan/Iress during the course, with access provided by VU Online.

The course is delivered 100% online using VU’s Block Model, with students completing one unit at a time over each seven-week study period. It comprises 12 units and can be completed in a minimum of two years part-time.

Entry requirements

Students must have one of the following requirements:

  • Completion of an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a similar discipline.
  • Completion of an Australian Graduate Certificate (or equivalent) in a similar discipline.
  • Completion of an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline and five years of managerial experience.
  • Applicants without an undergraduate qualification may be admitted to the graduate certificate based on approved work experience. Upon completion of the graduate diploma, graduates will be eligible for admission to this course with credit granted for completed units.
