Course overview
Artificial intelligence is transforming how organisations analyse information, automate decisions and respond to complex challenges. Curtin University’s Master of Artificial Intelligence is designed for professionals with a background in information technology, computational science or engineering who want to extend their existing technical capabilities.
You will explore advanced machine learning, neural networks, reinforcement learning, planning under uncertainty and search and logic approaches. The course also examines explainable and responsible AI, helping you consider how intelligent systems can be designed and deployed in line with contemporary standards and expectations.
Advanced research topics and research methodologies support your understanding of emerging AI developments. You will apply your learning through an extensive industry-based computer science project focused on solving a real-world problem.
Delivered on campus at Curtin Perth, the course can be completed in one year of full-time study or an equivalent part-time period. What you will study
To earn the Master of Artificial Intelligence, you must successfully complete units totalling 200 credit points, as detailed below. Unless otherwise noted, each course is worth 25 credit points.

Entry requirements
Academic requirements
To be eligible for this course, you must meet one of the following:
- Hold a recognised four-year bachelor’s degree in information technology, computational science or engineering.
- Hold a recognised three-year bachelor’s degree in information technology, computational science or engineering and have at least two years of relevant work experience.
Applicants seeking admission through the work-experience pathway must provide evidence of their relevant employment. Curtin identifies either:
- A letter of employment outlining the applicant’s role and responsibilities.
- A letter of employment accompanied by a position description.
English-language requirements
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to:
- IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.0, with a minimum score of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- An alternative English-language test or eligible qualification accepted by Curtin, provided you meet the required equivalent scores and conditions.
