Course overview
Financial markets are being reshaped by digital innovation, artificial intelligence and growing expectations around sustainable investment. Deakin University’s Master of Finance prepares you to understand these developments and make informed investment, financing and risk-management decisions.
You will apply contemporary finance theory and research methods to real-world challenges, using financial data and digital tools to evaluate markets, corporate funding decisions and investment portfolios. The course develops the analytical judgement to compare risk and return, communicate complex findings and recommend financially sound responses.
A compulsory capstone brings your learning together through applied corporate finance and portfolio management. You can broaden your expertise through postgraduate electives, a business specialisation or an optional consultancy or internship experience, subject to availability and eligibility.
Delivered online, the course offers one, 1.5 and two-year pathways based on your previous qualifications and professional experience. It is recognised through the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program and can support careers across investment, corporate finance, treasury, risk and fintech.

What you will study
To earn the Master of Finance, you must successfully complete units totalling up to 16 credit points, as detailed below. Depending on your admission pathway, you may receive 4 or 8 credit points of admission credit. Unless otherwise noted, each course is worth 1 credit point.

Entry requirements
Selection is based on a holistic consideration of your academic merit, work experience, likelihood of success, availability of places, participation requirements, regulatory requirements and individual circumstances. You will need to meet the minimum academic and English language proficiency requirements to be considered for selection, but this does not guarantee admission.
Depending on your professional experience and previous qualifications, you may commence this course with admission credit and complete your course in one year full-time (or part-time equivalent).
One year full-time (or part-time equivalent) - eight credit points
To be considered for admission to this degree (with eight credit points of admission credit applied^*), you will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree (honours) (AQF 8) or higher in a related discipline.
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience (or part-time equivalent).
- Completing a graduate certificate, diploma, or higher in a related discipline.
1.5 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) - 12 credit points
To be considered for admission to this degree (with four credit points of admission credit applied^*), you will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline.
- Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience (or part-time equivalent).
Two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) - 16 credit points
To be considered for admission to this degree (without admission credit applied*), you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline.
^Related discipline degree: A 'related discipline' award for this course is a bachelor's degree in finance or a bachelor's degree in commerce, management or business with a primary sequence in finance.
^ Relevant work experience: Relevant work experience is business experience in either a finance role or a managerial position with business oversight responsibilities in a finance-related field, such as financial consulting, financial analysis, treasury management, corporate finance, fund management and banking.
*Credit for Recognition of Prior Learning will still be considered case-by-case.
