Course overview
Macquarie University’s Master of Business Analytics prepares you to turn complex information into insights that support better organisational decisions. Designed for graduates from both quantitative and non-quantitative backgrounds, the course develops technical analytics capabilities alongside an understanding of business operations, strategy and change – with no previous coding experience required.
You will gain hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Tableau and Excel while exploring predictive analytics, data visualisation, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, information systems and data governance. A Business Analytics Project allows you to apply your learning to a practical challenge, while elective options include a supervised internship, FinTech, blockchain, advanced data visualisation and digital innovation.
Delivered in person at Macquarie University’s North Ryde campus, the course can be completed in two years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent. Applicants with relevant previous study or professional experience may qualify for the 1.5-year pathway. Accredited at the Professional Level by the Australian Computer Society, the degree can prepare you for analytics roles across finance, technology, consulting, government, healthcare, marketing and other data-driven sectors.

What you will study
To earn the Master of Business Analytics, you must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points, as detailed below. Unless otherwise noted, each course is worth 10 credit points.

The admission requirements depend on the course pathway.

To be eligible for this pathway, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
1.5 years full-time (or equivalent part-time)
To be eligible for this pathway, applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have at least two years of relevant full-time professional experience, professional certification or other recognised prior learning.
Related fields include actuarial studies, banking, computer science, data science, econometrics, economics, finance, insurance, mathematics and statistics.
Relevant professional experience may include working as a Business Analyst, conducting research involving quantitative data, working in market research or working as a Statistician or in a related field.

Applicants seeking admission based on professional experience must provide:
- A current résumé.
- A workplace reference letter confirming their relevant experience.
English language requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of at least one of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree completed in a recognised English-speaking country.
- An IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent.
- Other accepted evidence of English language proficiency.
