Take your marketing capability beyond campaign delivery and learn how to shape the strategies behind meaningful business growth. Deakin University’s Master of Business (Marketing) prepares you to solve complex marketing problems, influence decisions and progress towards more senior roles.

You will strengthen your understanding of consumer behaviour, marketing strategy, analytics, digital and social media marketing and marketing technology. Broader business perspectives in data analysis, innovation and environmental sustainability will help you make informed decisions in a changing commercial environment.

At Deakin’s Burwood campus, you will apply your learning through industry projects, simulations and a strategic marketing capstone while developing a professional portfolio. Depending on your selected learning experiences, you may also undertake an industry placement or study tour. The course can be completed in one, 1.5 or two years full-time, depending on your qualifications and experience, and is accredited by the Australian Marketing Institute.

What you will study

To earn the Master of Business (Marketing), you must successfully complete units totalling 8, 12 or 16 credit points, depending on your entry point and approved Recognition of Prior Learning, as detailed below. Unless otherwise noted, each course is worth 1 credit point.

Work-integrated learning

Academic requirements

1 year full-time or part-time equivalent – 8 credit points

Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s honours degree in a related discipline.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience.
  • Completion of a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in a related discipline.
  • Evidence of academic capability considered equivalent.

1.5 years full-time or part-time equivalent – 12 credit points

Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience.
  • Evidence of academic capability is considered equivalent.

2 years full-time or part-time equivalent – 16 credit points

Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or another qualification at a higher Australian Qualifications Framework level in any discipline.
  • Evidence of academic capability is considered equivalent.

Related disciplines may include marketing, commerce, or business studies, incorporating a major or minor in marketing.

Relevant experience may include professional marketing roles such as marketing executive, manager, analyst, content creator or supervisor. Senior leadership and entrepreneurial experience may also be considered where it demonstrates relevant marketing and business capability.

English language requirements

Applicants must provide evidence of at least one of the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree completed in a recognised English-speaking country.
  • An IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent.
  • Other accepted evidence of English language proficiency.
