Strategic problem-solving plays a critical role in enabling businesses and employees to remain agile and adapt to changing business conditions. Accelerate career growth by learning the principles, capabilities and frameworks of strategic problem-solving alongside industry experts.

The Strategic Problem Solving course helps students build the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to engage at a strategic level. Over six weeks, students will practise identifying problems and synthesising issue trees. They will use recognised strategic frameworks to complete analysis and develop solutions. Throughout the course, students will build capabilities in problem definition, communication and strategic analysis, culminating in a credential from RMIT University upon completion of the course.

Your organisation and you

  • Explore the concept of problem-solving as an organisational priority.
  • Investigate an organisation's strategy, mission and identify their differences.

Milestone: Develop a strategy on a page and conduct a SWOT analysis to appraise your organisation's approach.

How you will learn

Over six weeks, students will practise identifying problems and synthesising issue trees. Students will use recognised strategic frameworks to analyse and evaluate organisational strategies and approaches to solutions.

At the end of the course, students can choose to complete an assessment to be awarded an RMIT University credential, validating their skills and competency in the area. In the final project, students will present and justify recommendations in response to a problem statement using a recognised strategic framework.

Throughout this course, you will: 

  • Describe your role within the context of an organisational strategy.
  • Appraise an organisation’s strategy against recognised frameworks.
  • Develop a problem statement and break it down into a prioritised issues tree for an organisational issue.
  • Provide recommendations and associated rationale in response to the problem statement.
