This highly accredited programme prepares you to become a qualified actuary. You have the option to earn a dual degree with two specialisms to choose from.

Course Overview

This programme is aimed at providing students with the following:

  • A course of study in Actuarial Science fully accredited by IFoA (UK) and grants maximum exemptions.
  • A firm grasp of mathematical, statistical and analytical skills, as well as soft skills and actuarial practices necessary to be prepared for the industry.

Specialism

Aside from the general Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Actuarial Studies degree programme, there are two types of specialisms available:

  • Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Actuarial Studies with a specialism in Data Analytics
  • Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Actuarial Studies with a specialism in Financial Technology

APU-DMU Dual Degree Programme

Students can enrol in the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme as part of this programme. This scheme enables students to receive two degree certificates and transcripts upon programme completion: one from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia and the other from De Montfort University (DMU), UK.

Course Structure

The programme consists of 33 subjects, including four specialised subjects depending on the chosen specialism, a project in actuarial studies and a 16-week internship (Industrial Training). Students must also complete general studies subjects stipulated by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and fulfil credit requirements for co-curricular activities.

Entry Requirements

Academic Qualification

To meet the entry requirements for the course, you need to fulfil one of the requirements below:

  • STPM - Two passes with a minimum grade of C+ (GP 2.33).
  • A-Level - Two passes with a minimum grade of A to D in any two subjects.
  • UEC -  Five grade B’s in UEC, including mathematics.
  • Matriculation or Foundation - Passed with a minimum CGPA of 2.5.

English requirements for international students:

  • IELTS: 6.0; OR
  • TOEFL IBT: 60; OR
  • Pearson (PTE): 59; OR
  • MUET: Band 4

Note: Students must have a credit in mathematics and pass in English at SPM, O-Level, IGCSE or equivalent.
