Founded in 2001 and achieving university status in 2007, Management & Science University (MSU) is one of Malaysia’s top private universities. It is an urban institution located in the bustling city of Shah Alam.

QS World University Rankings

  • Management & Science University is ranked #621-630 in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
  • The university is also ranked #37 in the Asian University Rankings - South-Eastern Asia 2024 and placed #14 amongst Malaysian universities.
  • As for the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject, MSU placed #301-350 for Business and Management Studies. Among universities in Malaysia, MSU comes in 8th place for Business and Management Studies.

Times Higher Education

  • MSU was ranked #401-600 in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings for its commitment to sustainability and has continually been listed since 2019.

At the MTE 2023 Advanced Healthcare and Life Sciences International Innovation Awards and Expo, MSU researchers achieved impressive success by winning 14 awards. Among these were two special awards, six golds, five silvers and one bronze, obtained through their 12 groundbreaking research entries. The special awards were selected by independent award jurors and are bestowed by prestigious international inventors’ associations and organisations, in this case, by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and the Macau Invention Association (MIIA). The research areas primarily centred around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

In 2023, the university was recognised as the top university for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by receiving Malaysia’s Best University (TVET Education) award at the Malaysia Education & TVET 2023 (META 2023) award ceremony. The Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU) has also recognised MSU as the recipient of the People’s Choice Award 2023 as well as the winner of the Global Green University of the Year 2023 and Top 5 Engaged Global University of the Year 2023 through the ACEEU Triple E Awards. 

In 2022, MSU was honoured with a bronze Aria Brand Award through the People’s Choice for Education and Learning category by Putra Brand Awards. That same year, MSU students also won second place for the Best Innovation Product at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Innovation Entrepreneur Competition 2022, earning a RM5,000 prize and winning a research grant worth RM20,000 for the university. Internationally, MSU is also the first university outside of Japan to achieve recognition from the Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow (ABEST21).

Faculty of Business Management & Professional Studies (FBMP)

MSU’s FBMP has over 20 undergraduate courses and comprises two departments – Business Management & Accounting and Finance. The faculty emphasises business fundamentals, management principles, and problem-solving abilities. Graduate School of Management (GSM)

GSM provides postgraduate level programmes in business, management, accounting, finance and education. 

The school also organised the first Postgraduate Power Entrepreneurship Network (PPEN) event in 2023 to foster the development of a dynamic business entrepreneurial network between postgraduate students and seasoned professionals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. This initiative was created to enhance opportunities for information sharing and collaboration in the field of business and management.

One of the more prominent courses by GSM is the Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme, with over a hundred students enrolled in it in 2023, attracting not only local students but international students from China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Bachelor in Islamic Banking (Honours)

  • A pass in mathematics at SPM level; AND
  • A recognised certificate in matriculation or foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • A minimum of two full passes or a CGPA of 2.00 at STPM level; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
  • A diploma in MIF or a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, (Candidates with a CGPA below 2.50 but above 2.00 may be admitted subject to an internal assessment process); OR
  • Any other diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.50; OR
  • Any relevant and equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government

Note: The pass in mathematics at SPM level can be waived if the applicant has a qualification that contains mathematics with an equivalent or higher achievement.

Arabic language requirements:

  • Students are required to undergo an Arabic language enhancement course at the beginning of the programme except for candidates with a pass in the Arabic language at STPM or STAM or matriculation or foundation or diploma or at an equivalent level
  • Students must pass the Arabic enhancement course as a prerequisite to related core courses. However, this still allows students to take both core and non-core courses that do not require Arabic language enhancement courses
  • Credit for the Arabic language enhancement course is additional to the programme and can be considered for the graduating credit

Bachelor in Islamic Finance (Honours)

  • A pass in mathematics at SPM level; AND
  • A recognised certificate in matriculation or foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • A minimum of two full passes or a CGPA of 2.00 at STPM level; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
  • A diploma in MIF or a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, (Candidates with a CGPA below 2.50 but above 2.00 may be admitted subject to an internal assessment process); OR
  • Any other diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.50; OR
  • Any relevant and equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government

  • A minimum Band 2 at Malaysian University English Test (MUET); AND
  • A minimum of two C+s or a CGPA of 2.33 at STPM level; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
  • A diploma in accounting or a related field, or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50; OR
  • A matriculation or foundation certificate or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50; OR
  • Any equivalent qualification recognised by the MSU Senate

Bachelor in Economics and Finance (Honours)

  • Meet the minimum requirements of the MQA recommended programme or entry qualification standards enforced during the student enrolment period; OR
  • Any relevant and equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government

Bachelor in Office Management Technology (Honours)

  • A minimum of two full passes or a CGPA of 2.00 at STPM level, including in Pengajian Am (General Studies); OR 
  • A minimum of two full passes in two subjects at A-levels; OR 
  • A minimum of five Bs in the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC); OR
  • Passed the matriculation certificate by the Ministry of Education Malaysia; OR
  • Passed a matriculation or foundation certificate or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • Passed a diploma in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • Any equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government 

Bachelor in Psychology (Honours)

  • A pass in mathematics at SPM level; AND
  • A minimum of two Cs or a CGPA of 2.00 at STPM level; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
  • Other acceptable qualifications include matriculation or foundation or Pre-U or diploma or UEC with at least 2.00 CGPA or equivalent; OR
  • Any equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government 

Note: International students must score at least a 5.5 in IELTS or equivalent. 

Postgraduate business programmes

Master in Business Administration (MBA)

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with a CGPA below 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications can be accepted, subject to a minimum of five years of working experience in relevant fields

Master in Accounting and Finance

  • A bachelor’s degree with good honours from KUTPM (MSU); OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with good honours from any other university or equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by the Senate

Master in Management

  • A bachelor’s degree with a 2.75 CGPA or equivalent as accepted by the MSU Senate; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with a CGPA  below 2.75 but above 2.50 may be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with a CGPA below 2.50 may be accepted subject to presenting five years of working experience in a relevant field

Doctor of Philosophy (Management and Business)

  • A master’s degree or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by the MSU Senate

Doctor of Philosophy (Accounting and Finance)

  • A master’s degree or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by the MSU Senate

The application procedure for local students

  1. Fill in the online application form for local students.
    Submit the necessary documents, such as your academic certificates and transcripts.
  2. The university will review your application. The process will take approximately three to seven working days.
    If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter as well as the registration and payment details to enrol in your selected course.

The application procedure for international students

  1. Fill in the online application form for international students
  2. Complete the form online and attach your supporting documentation. To avoid any unexpected delays, it is advised by the university that you submit your application at least two months before the commencement of your programme intake. 
  3. Collect your supporting documents documents
    A certified clear copy of all of your relevant academic qualifications (transcripts and certificates).
    A certified clear copy of your TOEFL/IELTS transcript (if applicable).
    One certified clear copy of your passport, including blank pages (with at least one-year validity from the intake date).
    Six pieces of identical passport-sized colour photos. The image must be professionally and recently taken, front-facing, non-smiling, against a white background.
    A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the relevant embassy if you are from an African or sub-Saharan country.
    A pre-arrival medical examination report.
    If you are financed by a scholarship or a study loan, please make sure that there is documented evidence attached. If you are self-sponsored, you need a mandatory guarantee letter or a financial statement from the bank, parents or sponsor.
    English translations of all documents submitted (where applicable).
  4. Once you have completed the online application form, the following prescribed fee as well as the application fee must be enclosed: 
    The student pass and visa processing fee for students from all other countries (non-refundable) is RM2,158.*
    The student pass and visa processing fee for Indonesian students only (non-refundable) is RM2,698.*
    *The fees mentioned above may be subject to change.
  5. The university will review your application and verify your payment. The process will take approximately to three to seven working days.

Scholarships and financial aid

Financial aid

MSU offers financial aid to exceptional students and those facing economic hardships, including those from lower middle-income backgrounds, to obtain a quality education.

The financial assistance offered varies depending on the applicant's socio-economic background and can include support for tuition fees, meals, housing, transportation and educational resources. The scholarships below are provided through the MSU Foundation (Yayasan MSU). 

  • Joint scholarships - a collaborative effort by MSU and several partners’ education funds, this scholarship is open to all Malaysians and varies from a partial to full scholarship. 
  • Presidents Scholarship - awarded to underprivileged students with exceptional academic achievements.
  •  MSU Outstanding Rewards Scholarship (MORE) - a scholarship for outstanding students who perform academically well, have great achievements in extra-curricular activities and have represented the state or university in any competition.
  • Fellowship awards - MSU provides fellowship awards to local and international candidates interested in pursuing a PhD.
  • SLAB Scheme - as part of its commitment to staff development, the university also offers the SLAB scheme, a fully funded internal programme designed to support academic staff pursuing higher education.
  • The National Higher Education Fund or Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi National (PTPTN) - a government education loan provided to students to allow them to pursue their studies at local tertiary institutions. Depending on the stipulated requirements by PTPTN, students will receive either a full or partial loan for their chosen programme.
  • Affin Education Financing - A Syariah-compliant initiative aimed at assisting students who wish to pursue their tertiary education.
