SEGi University and Colleges established its first campus in 1977. Over the decades, the institution has expanded significantly and rebranded itself as SEG International Berhad (SEGi) in 2002. Today, the university has five campuses located in Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang and Sarawak, accommodating more than 16,000 students.

Business programme admission requirements
To apply for SEGi University courses, you must meet one of the following in the criteria list below:
Diploma courses
- SPM / O-Level or equivalent with three credits; OR
- UEC with three credits; OR
- SKM Level 3 in a related field; OR
- Related certificate or equivalent; OR
- MQA-APEL T4
Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours)
- STPM with a minimum grade of C+ (CGPA 2.33) in any two subjects, a credit in mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; OR
- STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid (good), a credit in mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; OR
- Diploma in accounting or a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, a credit in mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; OR
- Matriculation/foundation qualification or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, a credit in mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; OR
- A-Level with a pass in two subjects (grade D)
Students are required to possess a sufficient level of English language proficiency by obtaining at least a TOEFL score of 550, MUET band 2 or its equivalent.
The English proficiency requirement is exempt for local and international students if the student has an academic qualification from an institution where English is used as the medium of instruction or if the international student is from a country where English is an official language.
Other business bachelor’s degrees
- STPM with a minimum grade C (CGPA 2.0) in any two subjects, a pass in mathematics and English at SPM level or any equivalent qualification; OR
- STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid, a pass in mathematics and English at SPM level; OR
- Any diploma or advanced diploma (Level 4 or 5, MQF); OR
- Matriculation/foundation qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or any equivalent qualification; OR
- A-Level with a pass in two subjects (grade D)
Master of Financial Planning
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent, as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a CGPA between 2.50 and 2.74 can be accepted (subject to a rigorous internal assessment); OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a CGPA between 2.00 and 2.49, with at least five years of relevant work experience can be accepted (subject to a rigorous internal assessment); OR
- Candidates without a qualification in a related field or relevant work experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP and meet the minimum CGPA.
Other master’s degrees by coursework
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or any equivalent qualification
Master of Science in Management (by research)
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with a CGPA between 2.51 and 2.74 may be accepted (subject to a rigorous internal assessment); OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with a CGPA below 2.50, with at least five years of relevant work experience may be accepted (subject to a rigorous internal assessment)
PhDs by research
- Master’s degree with honours
- Any equivalent qualification that is recognised by the Malaysian Government
To be eligible for the master’s degrees (by coursework and research) and PhDs, international students are required to possess a sufficient level of English language proficiency by obtaining at least an IELTS score of 6.0 or its equivalent.

SEGi enrolment process
You can enrol in your chosen course online. Just follow the steps below:
- Once you have decided on your course, proceed to the course page on the university website.
- Navigate down the page until you find the Apply button, then click on it.
- On the Enquire Now page, select your campus and programme type. Fill in your name, contact number and email.
- An enrolment staff member from SEGi will reach out to you via email or WhatsApp.
- You will be required to submit soft copies of your academic certificate and transcript to the staff member for university assessment.
- The university staff member will send you an e-application form if you are deemed eligible for the course. Fill in additional details about your academic background, work experience (if applicable), course and intake date.
Submit the completed e-application form along with a soft copy of your identity card/passport to the university student support team for registration. They will provide you with further instructions once they have reviewed your application.
Registration fees
- Local students: RM500 one-off registration fee when they enrol for their chosen programme.
- International students: RM2,950 for their application and student visa processing fees.
SEGi University scholarships and financial aid
The university provides scholarships to eligible students who need financial assistance. There are also other financing options available. You can apply for financial support from the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN), a government education loan initiative. Alternatively, you may want to consider withdrawing funds from your Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 2 or get a bank loan.
University scholarships
- SEGi High Achievers Scholarship (HAS) - This scholarship is open to all SPM, O-Level, STPM, local matriculation, A-Level and UEC graduates who plan to study at SEGi University. The HAS offers a percentage off tuition fees based on how well you have performed in your final secondary school exam or matriculation study.

To be eligible for this SEGi University scholarship, you will have to fulfil the criteria below:
- Be a Malaysian citizen aged below 25 years
- Be active in extra-curricular activities
- Have recommendations by your school principal or headmaster (recommended)
- Maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.70 every semester to continue the scholarship
- SEGi special financial assistance - Bachelor’s degree students with excellent UEC and A-Level qualifications can apply for this financial aid option. Successful applicants will receive 20 per cent off their SEGi tuition fees.
- SEGi Sports Scholarship - this scholarship is open to Malaysian athletes who have participated in state-level and national-level sporting events. State-level athletes are entitled to a 25 per cent rebate on their tuition fees, while national athletes will receive a 50 per cent rebate.
The scholarship recipients are required to represent SEGi University in MAPCU games or any other tournaments as requested by the university. Recipients are also required to meet a minimum CGPA of 2.50 every semester and maintain their sports achievements at the state or national level.
National education loan initiatives
- PTPTN education loan scheme (for local students) - you can finance your studies by applying for a low-interest loan from the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN). This education loan programme has helped millions of Malaysians earn their degrees. If you achieve top grades in your course, you’ll have the opportunity to convert your PTPTN loan into a scholarship.
Other financing options
- Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 2 - you can withdraw funds from your EPF Account 2 savings to pay your course fees. Unlike study loans, you won't have to pay it back.
- Bank loans - there are several banks in Malaysia that offer education loans. You should assess your capacity to repay the loan before applying for one.
